Atena

about

Hello!I’m Atena.

I make work I'd be proud to put my name on.

I grew up in Tehran and now live in Toronto. I trained as an architect before becoming a designer, and the way I work — system thinking, structure, attention to constraint — still comes from that. I've been designing professionally for over ten years, mostly across brand identity, digital products, and editorial work. I'm usually smiling, mostly curious, and most interested in work that means something.

Most projects start with a specific idea of what's wanted. The work I find most interesting is reading past that idea to find what was actually wanted underneath it. Architecture trained me to think this way — to find the creative move inside the constraint, not despite it.

Right now I'm thinking a lot about AI in design. The tools are changing fast, and I'm using them in my own work — not to replace the creative thinking, but to clear the busywork so there's more room for it. Used well, they're a quiet assistant. The creativity still has to come from somewhere human.

Currently looking for visual and UI design roles in Toronto. If you're working on something interesting — or just want to say hi — I'd like to hear from you.
